How to Pick the Right Genre
Picking the right genre is crucial for a song’s discoverability on cXc Music. Users prefer to search for Genre before mood or format.
Genre is new consideration for each track. Even if the artist is known for one genre, they can make songs of many different genres. Think of Childish Gambino.
Let’s look at some situations:
When you are posting music you didn’t create, you should take extra care to make sure you are posting to the right genre for the song.
One suggestion is to check the Soundcloud account of the artist and find the genre tagged on the track like this example below.
When you have a song that fits multiple genres, or one that doesn’t fit exactly, the worst thing you can do is pick nothing. Picking “I ain’t got no type” will exclude you from all results.
Instead, think about the closest match. You may also consider the fan who would like this music. Choose what a listener would most closely associate it with.
If you can’t choose between two genres, Fusion, which is a combination of genres, may be your best bet.
Don’t worry or get upset if your genre is not represented. We plan to add more genres and sub-genres, and you can help pick them.
